Allow us to Introduce Bourgoin Cognac Micro Barrique

There is a wide world of spirits out there waiting to be explored. Sure, we all have our favorite potent potables but deep within most spirits connoisseurs there is the desire to branch out and see what lies just around the corner. At Vine & Table we wholeheartedly support that exploration. We also understand that sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. Well, if you’ve been part of the whisky boom of the last several years but aren’t sure where to turn to next, we have just the thing. Allow us to introduce Bourgoin cask strength cognac.

The Bourgoin family has been cultivating vines for organic cognac production since 1930. With plots spread across three of the region’s famous crus, the family weaves together an assemblage of the best aged and rarest stocks for their limited releases. For this release they forgo the traditional blending process to present a single cask expression from one of their premier vineyards. Their goal is to fully express the terroir of the region. The brandy was then meticulously aged for 22 years in traditional French Limousin oak before being finished for a month in heavily toasted micro barriques. It has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.3% ABV, exceedingly rare for a cognac, but essential in allowing the full complexity of the spirit to shine through.

This cognac is a rich, full bodied pour. Each sip brings new notes to the palate with clementines, clover honey, white currants, toasted marshmallow, jasmine tea, fennel, nougat, and baking spices all making appearances. A drop of water opens the nose beautifully without diminishing the complexity. Rich and smooth enough for a bourbon lover and deeply nuanced enough to satisfy the pickiest scotch connoisseurs this is a much try bottle for any whisky lover looking to expand their horizons. At over 22 years of age the $104.99 price tag for a 375ml is hard to beat as well. While we’d love to make this a mainstay this was indeed a one-off release from the family run vineyard so grab one now before this release disappears for good.
