I love Italian amari. These regional bitters offer a style and flavor for every palate – for example, Aperol and Fernet are considerably different. In Amaro Meletti, I’ve finally found an Italian bitter that hits a middle ground and is a solid introduction to the category.
From the Meletti family, who have been making a world-renowned anisette since 1871 in the Marche region of Italy, this amaro is based on a formula that founder Silvio Meletti first produced in the early 1900s. Meletti Amaro is different from some of the really bitter bottles out there; it’s rich, without being cloyingly sweet, and it has a complex set of flavors, from saffron to a touch of anise, resulting in a balanced, complex liqueur.
This is the perfect entry level amaro, equally good in a spritz or taken as an after-dinner digestivo to cure your agita. For those of you more experienced consumers of amari, this is definitely a bottle to add to your collection and can take the place of Italian Vermouth in a variety of cocktails. It would be excellent in a Maritinez or a Manhattan. As I sit here tasting, I’m imagining it pared with mezcal or tequila…
Amaro Meletti is here for just $22.99, come in and show it the love it deserves.
