We’re having a lot of fun picking out our “Rosés of the Month” here at the store, and to shake things up for August, we are featuring Les Vignerons du Mont-Ventoux Cuvée des 3 Messes Basses Rosé 2012. Whew! This wine is a mouthful both in name and taste, so let’s break it down.
Les Vignerons du Mont-Ventoux grows its vines on the sweeping slope of the “Giant of Provence”- Mount Ventoux. A UNESCO Natural Biosphere Reserve, this pristine environment is blessed with abundant sunshine, a stony, dry substrate, and thin soil cover that is perfectly suited to the grape varietals that Les Vignerons so carefully cultivates. In the case of 3 Messes Basses, or ‘the 3 low masses’ (of grapes, though the name is also a play on an old French story about the sin of gluttony, set in a fictional castle on the top of, you guessed it, Mount Ventoux), those varietals are grenache, cinsault, and carignan, in a 60%-20%-20% arrangement.
The terroir of Mount Ventoux is evident in 3 Messes Basses, which is a refreshingly dry and crisp rosé – no cloying sweetness here. The minerality of the soil comes through in a piquant acidity, and the grapes express themselves on the palate in a kicky burst of kiwi, citrus, and underlying red fruits and berries. It’s a sort of evolved fruit salad– pure, fresh, and lively. Terrifically drinkable, with a lovely deep pink body and intoxicating (pardon the pun) bouquet, it’s excellent for picnics and pairs well with crunchy salads, olives, ripe cheeses, and cured meats. Yum!
We’re pleased to offer this wine to you for $12.49 a bottle and will apply a discount of 10% if you buy a case of 12. Keep in mind that a rosé of this caliber will keep for a couple of years when stored properly, so if you find yourself loving 3 Messes Basses as much as we do, you might want to stock up. Now how about that picnic and a little gluttony?
Less than 48 bottles available at $12.49 a bottle, 10% case discount applies on 12 bottles.
