Tait Ball Buster is the #1 selling Australian wine in the U.S. for under $20 and there is good reason for that! The back label tells you the story of the evolution of the name and it is funny and most definitely worth a read- I won’t spoil it for you, but needless to say it wasn’t named after a grateful, kind-hearted woman!
It has been called “one of Australia’s greatest value wines” (Wine Enthusiast); the 2014 vintage came in at #36 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list, and Ball Buster has scored 90pt plus over 13 consecutive vintages (talk about consistency!). This particular vintage received 91pt from Robert Parker, but enough of the fanfare – let’s get to the wine.
The intense nose of blackberries, cherries, and chocolate is only an invitation to enjoy this impressive wine. It is full-bodied, broad-shouldered, and bold, with a brassy attitude; these traits come from Barossa Shiraz. With loads of dark fruits, blueberry jam, cherries, and chocolate on the palate, and a hint of spices on a long sweet finish, this wine is awesome!! The winemaker has thrown in a little Cabernet and Merlot just to add some subtlety and a velvety mouthfeel. For $19.99, you can’t go wrong!
