Arran Distillery

The Casks are coming…

At Vine & Table, we take great pride in bringing you the finest wines and spirits from across the world. Many of these products are simply brought to us by our distributors, but sometimes, our quest to find the-best-of-the-best takes us on journeys around the globe.
Arran DistilleryBack in May of 2012, I trekked to the far western reaches of Scotland, eventually landing at the Isle of Arran Distillery. You might remember the hand-selected cask that we featured at last year’s Expo…well, that bottling sold out in 8 weeks, so it’s a good thing we have another trick up our sleeves! On that same visit to Arran, we tasted a lightly peated whisky which just about knocked our socks off. My goodness. It was clear to all of us standing in the warehouse that this was a dream cask– and we decided that another year in the barrel would only improve it. Imagine my delight when our sample from this cask arrived this spring- it’s better than I could have imagined, with citrus notes, almond and toasty oak mingling with the soft peat. Naturally, we bought the cask and had it bottled exclusively for Vine & Table. Your first opportunity to taste this exclusive cask will be at the Expo. Louisa Young, Senior Brand Manager for the Arran Distillery is flying in from Scotland to be with us this night. If last year’s response to our hand-selected Arran was any indication, this bottling will go just as quickly.
GlenDronach Distillery
In April of this year, the jet stream took me back to Scotland, and this time our destination was the Highlands. GlenDronach Distillery is known for producing some of the finest, richly sherried whiskies in Scotland, so it became my mission to find a single malt that expressed these qualities. My traveling companions and I tasted samples from 20 different casks that day, and in the end, the decision was unanimous. We have bottled a fantastic 11 year old Olorosso sherry puncheon, Cask No. 2645, which I can’t wait for you to try. It’s gently sweet on the nose with citrus, apple and warm fruit pie with a nice touch of oak spice. The palate is delicately spicy; ginger, white pepper and warm stewed fruits, mingle with barley sugar and gentle toffee which culminates into an incredibly long finish. Those of you who drink Macallan, Balvenie, Aberlour and Dalmore will go mad for this whisky. Scotsman David King, Keeper of the Quaich and importer of the GlenDronach malts will be on hand to at this year’s Expo to pour from the GlenDronach line-up, including Vine & Table’s very own cask.

Both the Arran and GlenDronach casks are expected to arrive in time for the Whisky Expo, and those attending the Whisky Expo on Friday October 4th will have the opportunity to sample this whisky for the very first time. We are taking pre-orders now!
